At Highland Dance Albuquerque, we believe that performance opportunities are a key part of a dancer’s growth, and we are excited to participate in various performance opportunities throughout the year! From our newest dancers to our seasoned competitors, performing helps dancers gain confidence, try out new steps, give back to our community, and develop life skills. In our Highland dance classes in Albuquerque, we teach dancers the skills they need to perform, preparing them for the experience of being on stages large and small.

Building Confidence
Each time a dancer steps on stage, they build confidence and self-assurance. Performing allows children to share their dances in public, developing the focus to remember their dance and share their skills with the audience. They also get to experience the joy their dancing brings to others.
Learning New Steps and Dances
Performances are also a wonderful opportunity to try out new steps and dances without the pressure of getting it exactly right for a competition. At Highland Dance Albuquerque, students gain experience adapting to new music, settings, and audiences—skills that help them grow creatively and personally.

Sharing Highland Dance in our Community
We love having the opportunity to introduce Highland Dance to our local community! We perform throughout the year with the New Mexico Scottish Highland Dance Association, a non-profit dedicated to promoting Highland Dance across the state. You’ll find us at events like the New Mexico Renaissance Celtic Festival, the Rio Grande Valley Celtic Festival, and multicultural days at local schools. Our studio showcases provide another opportunity for our dancers to share their talents. We also share Highland Dance when our dancers perform in their local communities, such as at school talent shows or church camps. These performances let our dancers connect with diverse audiences, celebrate their hard work, and experience the excitement of sharing something special with their community.
Developing Life Skills
Performing teaches life skills that last far beyond the dance floor! Dancers learn to be reliable and dependable—committing to a performance, showing up prepared, and allowing extra time to navigate an unknown event.
They also develop resilience, learning how to adapt when conditions change or something unexpected happens during a show. Highland Festivals are rain or shine events, and our dancers have performed in the heat, cold, hail, and more! We’ve also navigated unexpected stage setups, technological difficulties, rowdy audiences, and more! Throughout the performance, dancers need to focus, preparing to go on stage and perform their dance despite any challenges or distractions. Developing the ability to focus is another skill that serves our dancers throughout their lifetimes.
